What is Alt Ed?
Alt. Ed is a specialized program designed for students with learning needs that for whatever reason, cannot be met in a regular classroom. Alt Ed is run at GHSS out of The Hub and all material and resources can be found there.
This Program offers courses for independent study that meet the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Alt Ed. allows students the freedom and flexibility to work at their own pace, in a quiet and supportive environment
- Each course is divided into units: One-credit courses usually have four units, half-credit courses have two units. When you finish (and pass) one unit, you move onto the next.
- At the end of each unit, you submit your completed work to your Alt Ed teacher. Please Note: If you are enrolled in Ms. Christie's class you may use this website to submit work.
If you work regularly every day or every other day, you will probably complete a unit in two to four weeks. At that rate, it will take you roughly:
- Two months to complete a half-credit course
- Four months to complete a full-credit course
- These times do not the final test or summative assignment(s).
In order to receive your credit, you must successfully complete all units of work and then write and pass the final test.
Deadlines
Students enrolling in modular credit courses will set up deadlines with their Alt Ed Teacher in order to successfully pass all units of their course and write the final test.
